John 1:1 (NIV)
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
This week has certainly fled and I have no article for my blog…so the following is a freestyle commentary on yet another disturbing event. I have loaded this with Scripture and pray you will take the time to read them.
As I read the account that inspired this writing, I felt an urgency welling in my heart to warn people. To shout from the rooftops for you to take heed. Buy Bibles now…even if you’re not in the practice of reading it every day. Buy them now. We’ve often heard evangelicals preach that we’re living in the end times and it’s true. You must understand that the end began the day Christ was crucified on the cross. I just never thought I’d live to see some of what is happening in our world. It isn’t political at all. It’s biblical. We’re being given over to our depraved minds. See Romans 1:18-32
This recent account is something that is floating around in cyber space. I’ve not seen it on the news so I’m not sure how much credence to give it. But, it’s disturbing. I read that a homosexual individual is filing a law suit against two major publishing houses that print the Bible. As if the publishers are the authors. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Now I mention homosexuality only because this is the specific issue that is being discussed. An individual has claimed suffering mental anguish because the Bible speaks out against the sin of homosexuality. This person wants the wording changed… in the Holy Scripture…so that it’s not offensive. And I am positively offended. Brothers and sisters, the Scripture points out all sins. We live in a sin sick world. For the moment evil prevails, but in Christ there is hope! Read 1 John 5:19-20
We all sin and we all fall short. We all get uncomfortable when our sins are pointed out. We should! Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) says:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. But we can’t realign the Word of God Almighty to suit our own depraved desires! Mankind is certainly not authorized!! I’ll let the Word speak for itself on changing its content. I’ve typed this out because if you haven’t had a chance to read the other scriptures listed I urge you to read this. The red letters indicate the words of Jesus.
Revelation 22:12-21 says this…
12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. (emphasis is mine) 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
It seems to me if the gay community truly believed their lifestyle was ok they wouldn’t make such a fuss. If they truly believe it’s ok, why do Biblical ethics make some of them lash out? My answer is this. Anyone who is living a sinful life outside of Christ is brought under the power of conviction by the Word, the Holy Spirit. Those who are living under the Blood are brought to the realization that they’re messing up. And we all do. And we’re all called to repent. We all have our own burdens to bear. We may battle addictions, adultery, murder, abuse, abortion, lying, stealing, and cheating. Or from sexual sins…of which there are many! The list is endless but in Christ we’re free from tying to live as the world would have us live.
When we turn our lives over to Christ our burdens are made light and our yoke is easy. He paid the ultimate price on the cross for me and for you. If you struggle with particular sins, lay them at the foot of the cross. We all struggle with something. Striking words from the Scripture will not make you right. It will never make Christians believe sin is right. Nor will it make sin less sinful. And no, reading how we fall short isn’t pleasant, it wasn’t meant to be. It’s for our own good.
Woe be unto the ones who try to take the Truth of the Word out of the hearts and minds of those who seek it.
