Joint Heirs…We’re Not Fatherless!

Standard

June ushers in summer heat, humidity, lightning bugs and ice cream! School lets out and vacations begin. It also brings with it a celebration that I’ve never been able to relate too. Father’s Day.

Obviously I had a father else I wouldn’t exist; I just didn’t know him very well. I’m in the ever growing majority of those who grew up in a single parent household. Dad wasn’t the present parent…mom was. I know when he passed away I was sad but I didn’t feel a loss. That sounds horrid but the loss came the day he walked out. When he chose to leave us. I remember that time now like it was yesterday.

It’s not surprising then that Father’s Day doesn’t generate much emotion or excitement for me. You may be nodding your head in agreement. You may be just the opposite and can’t fathom what I’m saying. I just know when I buy cards for my husband and our son’s on this occasion, I marvel at the sentiment they contain. I really did miss out on something.

You know what? I found something better…profoundly better!

Years ago, when I turned my life over to Christ, not only did I find my Savior…I was also adopted by God, my Father!

Romans 8:13-17 says, (emphasis mine)
“13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

As Christians we’re not fatherless…not at all! Go celebrate Father’s Day! Get on your knees and express every Fathers Day sentiment to the Father who’ll never leave you…then go for that ice cream!

  1. I praise God that we don’t have to go fatherless. There is so much power in knowing he is above us. Thank you for this. By the way, we are co-bloggers on Compel. I would love to have you come join the linkup tomorrow (Tuesday) on http://www.Purposefulfaith.com. We have a bunch of Compel people there. Monday afternoons are time when we tweet encouragement to eachother using #RaRalinkup (optional part).
